About Xing Jin

Due to the intensive training process and the sophisticated skills required to be a Dalcroze teacher, Xing is one of the few certified Dalcroze teachers in Washington State.

I am a piano and Dalcroze Eurhythmics (Music and Movement) teacher dedicated to awakening the musicality within the students and cultivating their lifelong love for music through movement-based discovery learning.

At the age of 10, Professor Eryao Lin from Shanghai Conservatory of Music stepped in just as I was considering quitting piano. With his guidance, I embarked on a journey of rediscovery, where he helped me alleviate tension in my technique, encouraged expressive musicality through his holistic conducting and singing approach, and instilled in me the value of making music from the heart rather than from a place of competition. Over a decade of studying piano under his mentorship solidified my aspiration to become a music educator, dedicated to assisting others in discovering the joy of piano study through healthy techniques.

To stay abreast of the latest teaching methodologies, I actively participate in yearly piano pedagogy workshops, trainings, and conferences. In 2022, I achieved certification as a Royal Conservatory Piano Teacher (Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Specialist in piano). My students have showcased their talents in various platforms, including the Celebration of Excellence Recital of the Northwest Region and earning recognition as top twelve semi-finalists in the Music Lights the Way Piano Festival. They have been honored with prizes and medals at regional festivals and competitions.

Driven by a perpetual quest for innovative teaching approaches, I obtained certification as an Orff teacher during my undergraduate years at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2009, trained in Suzuki piano Book 1 and 2 in 2012. However, it wasn’t until the summer of 2012, upon completing my Master of Music Education (Piano) from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, that I encountered my my lifelong passion, Dalcroze Eurhythmics—a transformative approach of knowing music through the body.

The sheer exhilaration of participating in a Dalcroze Eurhythmics class revolutionized my perspective on music education. It was a pivotal moment that made me realize the profound impact of incorporating movement into music learning. From that moment forward, I know my passion is to bring people together to share and create music in an interactive, joyful, and experiential manner that is exciting, therapeutic, and loving. As people move and express themselves in a shared space and go with the flow of the music at the present moment, they open their hearts and form tighter bonds. I believe music is a universal language that connects people, and music is embodied with movement.

I earned my initial Dalcroze certificate from the Institute for Jaques-Dalcroze Education in 2013, followed by a second Dalcroze certificate from the Dalcroze School of Music and Movement in 2017. Currently, I am pursuing Dalcroze License at the Dalcroze School of Music and Movement, with plans to complete it by 2024.

With years of experience performing and teaching piano in both China and the USA, I am firmly convinced that children should experience music with their whole bodies before learning instrumental techniques or written music theory. Consequently, I began offering Dalcroze classes for children ages 4-7 to prepare them for instrument learning in 2015. Ultimately, my goal is to teach Dalcroze to individuals of all ages, using music as a means to connect their body, mind and spirit, thus fostering connections within and between communities.
